Fic: Nearly Noon (pg)
Title: Nearly Noon.
Pairing: Holmes/Watson
Rating: PGish
Spoilers: super minor, for the film.
Summary: Getting Sherlock Holmes out of bed is far more difficult that it should be.
Note: Set... before the film... I think. Also, my first foray into Holmesian fic. Hope you all like it.

Sherlock Holmes was still in bed.

It was nearly noon when Dr. Watson entered his rooms and began, as usual, flinging open window shades and picking his way through the detective's distinctive mess.

"Holmes," He said sternly, delicately avoiding stepping on a pile of what were probably his own stolen clothes. "How can you live in such mess? What is all this? When are these suitcases from? They're not at all unpacked."

The groaning reply came from a lump in Holmes' bed (Well, Watson thought, at least he's not sleeping on the floor again). "Belgium," it said.

"Belgium!" Watson exclaimed, nearly toppling over a pile of newspapers. "We went to Belgium over four months ago! This is appalling, Holmes." He approached the bed with his arms crossed. "Are you in your pajamas?"

"I think I'm still in my clothes from last night."

"I won't pick up after you any more, Holmes. What will you do when I'm gone?"

"You won't be gone." Watson rolled his eyes.

"I'm moving out, Holmes. I won't be here to care for you."

"I'll die, John. I'll simply languish here and die." Holmes was clearly awake, despite his firmly shut eyes. His shirtsleeves were cuffed to the elbow and covered in soot. His hands were equally filthy, and the dirt there had rubbed off onto his sheets.

Watson sighed.

"Stop that. You won't die. Now get out of bed."

"I'll die without you, Watson. I'll be lost." Despite his melodramatic words, Holmes' tone was calm as could be, and still slightly sleepy.

"Holmes--" Watson began, but was interrupted.

"I'll drown in mess and misery."

"You talk as if I'll be dead!"

"I'll never see you."

"You will--"

"You and Mary," he said her name as if it were an ugly thing, "will lead perfectly happy lives and never think of me. I'll die here alone and unloved."

Watson heaved another heavy sigh.

"That is decidedly not true, Holmes, now please--"

"I wish you wouldn't abandon me, John."

"Holmes! We'll still be friends, like we always have been. We can still lunch like we do, and talk. We're friends, Holmes, and that will never change."

There was a long pause. Holmes rolled into his pillows with a stubborn huff.

"Friends is one thing. Partners is entirely another."

Silence settled over the room. Watson suddenly felt very guilty. He searched for words but found none. So instead, he reached out a hand and placed it on Holmes' familiar hip. The man in bed shifted under the weight of his warm palm. Watson allowed his hand to roam up Holmes' side, to his rips, then shoulder, down his arm and to find the detective's hand. He perched on the edge of the bed and tangled their fingers.

"You're right," He finally whispered. "That may have to change." Watson leaned in close to Holmes’s cheek, so his breath would be felt. "But one thing that will never change, Sherlock, is how important you are to me."

The detective made a low scoffing noise.

"What will never change," Watson continued, allowed his mustached lip to brush against Holmes' scruffy cheekbone, "is how much I love you."

Finally, Holmes pried his eyes open.

"Really?"

"Really, you prat." He rolled onto his back, and gave Watson a very serious look.

"Even... with Mary?" Watson smiled at how childish Holmes could be.

"Yes." With a quick smile, Holmes swarmed forward and caught Watson’s mouth in a fierce kiss.

"Don't ever forget what you've just said to me," he said, releasing the doctor and sitting up. Still slightly in shock,

For an uncomfortably long moment, Holmes simply stared at his long-time companion, looking half-miserable and half-empty, their hands still wrapped together.

"I won't." Watson leaned in and planted a kiss on Holmes' forehead, beneath a head of very wild hair. "Now. Shall I have Mrs. Hudson draw you bath?"

I can't help but adore this characterization, with Watson being all put-upon and Holmes being melodramatic and clingy. It cracks me up. I love it.

Holmes is like a big little kid.

Watson needs to buy him a dog...oh wait, um a beetle? You can't really fuck up a beetle, right? Or a cat, i suppose. Cats would never stand for such treatment.

Very cute little bit of ficery.

Perhaps a mouse. He can let it live under the floorboards and--no, wait, someone's already written that book.

Wonderful! I really do think Holmes would be lost without Watson, melodrama or no.

Ah... Holmes is so melodramatic... But that's alright. What would our Holmes do without his Watson? :)
Great piece you have here. =]
